Historical Note:

A chapter of the Railroad Young Men's Christian Association (RRYMCA) was established in 1880 in Albany's west end to serve the railroad and stockyard workers who lived in that area. The association was largely supported by the Delaware and Hudson Railroad and the New York Central Railroad.

Scope and Content Note:

Minutes of the board of trustees, subject files and other materials including the records of the group's public speaking course. The organization was patronized by William T. Byrne, a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Albany County, and this collection contains a number of materials relating to the William T. Byrne Club, which sponsored the public speaking courses.
