Historical Note:

The Vroomans of New York State are descended from Hendrick Mees Vrooman, who, with two brothers, Peter and Jacob, came to the Dutch colony previous to 1677, in which year Hendrick moved to Schenectady. Adam, Hendrick's son, had thirteen children.

Scope and Content Note:

These papers consist chiefly of land titles and other legal documents related to the Veeder and Vrooman families of Albany and Schenectady counties in New York State.  The earliest land document is a contract in which  Jan Evertsz agrees to rent the house of Frans Barentsz Pastoor for one-and-one-half years for an annual payment of 70 beavers and a pair of shoes for the landlord's wife, September 20, 1662.  Also includes wills of Luykas Johannise Wyngaard, 1754, and John B. Wendell, 1815; personal correspondence of John Veeder and other family members, ca. 1854-1865; and a set of photographs depicting both the exterior and interior architectural features of the First Dutch Reformed Church of Schenectady, ca. 1920s.
