Scope and Content Note:
The collection consists of eleven boxes of materials relating to the history and genealogy of the Knowlton family. A large portion of the papers are letters and genealogical notes received by George Knowlton from members of different branches of the family. Bound notebooks with genealogical records of Knowlton ancestors from Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, England, and Ireland include copies of wills and estate papers. Also included are military records of family members from the French and Indian War through the Spanish American War, and photographs of historic houses and monuments. Much of this material was used to compile an unpublished manuscript history of the Knowlton family also included with the collection.
