Biographical Note:

Jared T. Abbott enlisted on September l, 1864, at Fabius, New York. He was mustered in as a captain in Company I, 185th Regiment of New York Volunteers, on December 12, 1864, and mustered out of the service on May 30, 1865, near Washington, D.C. He was commissioned a major in the New York State Volunteers by brevet.

Scope and Content Note:

This collection consists chiefly of financial and administrative records of Company I of the 185th New York Infantry Regiment during the American Civil War. These records include volunteer enlistment agreements of 30 individuals from Fabius, New York, who enlisted for service in August and September 1864; invoices, vouchers, reports, etc., related to clothing, camp, garrison equipment, and ordnance supplied to the company; reports and inventories of ordnance and other supplies used in specific engagements.

I in first and second quarters, 1865, which give dates and names of places where the company was in action; quarterly return of deceased soldiers (one listed) dated March 31, 1865; list of property "carelessly lost" by various soldiers during the fourth quarter, 1866; price list of clothing, camp and garrison equipage for cavalry and infantry, July 1864; and a cartridge report for Co. I which gives names of men.
