Background Note:

The related Titus and Bedell families were prominent Quakers in Greene County, New York, principally at Catskill and New Baltimore. Charles Titus and John W. Bedell kept stores in Catskill, and the bulk of this collection consists of their daybooks and ledgers, and bills of goods, 1795-1858. Charles Titus was also justice of the peace at New Baltimore, and many of his official acts are recorded in a group of some three hundred subpoenas and executions, 1809-1819, and a book of judgments, 1808-1817, which contains also some entries of marriages performed by him. Tucked away in one of John W. Bedell's ledgers, 1830-1831, are family records, 1798-1826. Correspondence, accounts, invoices, insurance certificates, and writings make up the rest of the collection, which covers the years 1790-1865.
