Historical Note:

The Schenectady and Troy Railroad was chartered by the State of New York in 1836. In 1853 the line was consolidated with the New York Central Railroad.

Scope and Content Note:

The journal and ledger provide financial information on the daily operation of the line. The journal provides a daily record of receipts and disbursements in chronological order. The ledger contains similar data, organized by account. Revenues include freight hauling charges and passenger ticket sales. Disbursements were for such items as labor, supplies, maintenance and bridge tolls. The collection also includes a daybook for 1848-1852.
