Cataloging the Collection

A number of manuals are used to create a record for the online catalog. For example:

a selection of cataloguing manuals
  • the Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules outlines the correct way to cite the name of the creator of a collection and the dates covered by the materials in the collection,
  • while the Library of Congress Subject Headings and the Art & Architecture Thesaurus provide subject headings that will help researchers find this collection.

Using the information he gathered by looking at the collection and the manuals, Fred created the catalog record, typing in the name of the creator of the collection (Fred Abele), the title (Transportation History Collection), the dates covered by the material in the collection (1905-1985), its size (38 cu. ft.), a brief summary of what's in the collection and its call number (SC22662).

Abele, Fred B., collector.
