Promote Your Summer Reading Program

Tips and Suggestions

  • Libraries across New York use the annual theme and materials provided by the Collaborative Summer Library Program (CSLP) to create a summer reading and learning program geared towards the needs of their local communities. The NYS Library creates additional themed materials to help libraries plan and promote their summer reading programs.
  • Access the online manual on the CSLP website to gain access to extensive program resources, graphics, clip art and banners, and tutorials to promote summer programs.
  • Use the CSLP clip art and other materials to create your own materials.
  • Public libraries can share the CSLP manual, official artwork, and materials for Summer Reading at New York Libraries with partnering schools and school libraries.
  • Connect with your local schools to schedule visits. Set up a virtual visit if you can’t visit the school in person!
  • Connect with local school librarians. Ask them to devote a class period to Summer Reading promotion and sign up!
  • Find out if your school or district distributes Summer Meals. Work with them to arrange for pop-up Summer Reading events at food distribution sites or ask to include “grab and go” activities with meals being picked up by families.
  • Publicize Summer Reading in school library newsletters; on school-related web pages; on social media; connect with the PTA to promote the program to students and families!
  • Search for and book a program or presenter by using the Performers and Programs Database.
  • Create displays that focus on this year’s summer reading theme.
