General Standards

Acquisition Streamlining and Standardization Information System (ASSIST)
Allows to search two databases for free: about 100,000 full text DoD specifications and standards available in the DoD master repository; 80,000+ digital document images in PDF format and related DoD databases including DSP standardization projects (SD-4), standardization points-of-contact (SD-1), Data Item Descriptions (DIDs), MilSpec Reform management data, and HAZMAT/ODC data (required to register). Also provides online shopping system with access to the complete collection of DoD specifications and standards indexed in ASSIST, managed by DoD Single Stock Point. Users may place orders for documents in either paper or CD-ROM formats.

Department of Defense Single Stockpoint for Standards
This site is intended to be a one-stop shopping site for military specifications and standards. Included are military/performance/detail specifications, military standards, Department of Defense-adopted non-government industry specifications and standards, federal specifications and standards; military handbooks; qualified products / Manufacturer's Lists (QPLs/QMLs); USAF / USN aeronautical standards & design standards; and USAF specifications bulletins.

ILI-Standards Database
Allows to search worldwide standards and specifications, such as DIN, ISO, BSI, ASTM, NFPA, API, IEC,  and ASME.  Covers a range of engineering, technical and regulatory databases.  Needs to register for free online standards facility.  Once registered, it allows to inquire title, number, version, contents, international equivalents and price of any standard from the industrial world for free.

The National Institute of Standards and Technology is an agency of the U.S. Department of Commerce's Technology Administration. National Resource for Global Standards (NSSN)
Allows to search 225,000 approved standards citations by term in the document tittle, document number, organization, and keyword. Provides nearly 13,500 records describing documents approved as American National Standards (ANS).  Includes documents approved by U.S. private sector organizations, government agencies, and international standard organizations.

American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
ASME conducts technical publishing operations, holds some 30 conferences and 200 professional development courses each year, and sets many industrial and manufacturing standards. Association of Fire and Toolmark Examiners (AFTE)
Portal for resources on firearms and forensic science including information on specifications and safety and recall. Links are categorized by firearms and ballistics; knives, swords, arms and armor; archery, arbalist, ballista; forensic sciences; associations in forensics; microscopy, imaging; useful links. The site provides information on conferences, meetings, and training.

Selected FAA standards handbooks are available on HTML or WorldView format.

Environmental Protection Agency
Portal for searchable databases on environmental protection. The site includes Environmental Test Methods & Guidelines, which contains test methods appeared in the Agency web site and sources for acquiring test methods from EPA,  Environmental Data Registry, which allows to retrieve information about the data elements used in EPA systems, and many other useful sites. Toxic Releases under Envirofacts contains information on 650+  industrial toxic chemicals.

Scientific and Technical Information Network (STINET)
Provides pertinent scientific and technical information.  The site contains all classified/unlimited citations added from late December 1974 to present, limited distribution citations added from 1985 to present, all recently added unclassified, unlimited (September 1998 to Present) and unclassified, limited full text reports (December 1999 to Present), and active and inactive Research Summaries (RS) from 1965 to present. Field search is available and full text documents are downloadable in PDF format.

Sector Facility Indexing Project (EPA)
Provides compliance and enforcement history, production capacity, demographics of the surrounding community, and information on TRI (Toxic Release Inventory) pollutant release and spills. Included five industry sectors (individual facilities) are petroleum refining, iron and steel production, primary smelting and refining of nonferrous metals, pulp manufacturing, and automobile assembly. Be able to search individual facilities by a combination of name, city, state, and EPA region.
