New York State Library | Annual Report 2008

Knowledge Sharing

State Research Library staff share their know-how and expertise.  Web pages, on-site classes, outreach workshops, and other customer training programs for State agencies, businesses, professions, and other researchers take the mystery out of using the Library’s services and resources.

A new series of customized classes begun in 2008 helps small businesses, entrepreneurs, scientists, and researchers explore information opportunities and strategies. State Research Library professionals now offer hands-on training in the Library’s state-of-the-art computer classroom and in-house training at small business locations throughout the Capital District.

Library staff conducted extensive training sessions in 2008 for physicians, mental health professionals, and library staff at the SUNY Upstate Medical University Library in Syracuse, as well as training programs for State employees and the general public.  Training outreach programs were tailored for State agencies, including the Civil Service Department, Division of the Budget,  NYS Police Forensic Investigation Center, Office of Mental Health, Unified Court System, and the Office of the State Comptroller.  Library staff gave Albany Regional Chamber of Commerce staff a quick study of the resources available to help small businesses and entrepreneurs grow their ideas.

The Library’s electronic newsletter "Library News For You" provides employees of State agencies with information on the resources the Library has to offer government professionals, as well as information on managing and preserving electronic documents.
