Preliminary Emancipation Proclamation touring exhibit concludes in Albany

On display at the New York State Museum and Library building
November 9-10, 2012

The traveling exhibit The First Step to Freedom: Abraham Lincoln's Preliminary Emancipation Proclamation, which features one of the Library's treasures - Lincoln's handwritten draft of the Preliminary Emancipation Proclamation - as well as other material from the NYS Library, the NYS Museum and the NYS Archives, will conclude its tour with a two-day exhibit here in Albany on November 9 and 10. The exhibit will be in the Cultural Education Center (the building that houses the Museum, the Library and the Archives) on Madison Avenue.

As part of the exhibit, Lincoln scholar Harold Holzer will present a lecture about "Lincoln and Liberty: Re-assessing the Preliminary Proclamation in the Age of Spielberg." Holzer will speak at 8 p.m. on November 9, 2012, in the Huxley Theater of the New York State Museum.
