Document Delivery Services

The New York State Library provides a wide range of Document Delivery services to support the research activities of New York State executive and legislative branches of government and the public. These services encompass basic photocopying, paper copy reproduction from microforms, and microfiche duplication.

New York State Agency and Legislative Patrons

New York State Government employees are encouraged to make their own copies of work-related materials using the 7th floor copying machines. In order to make these work-related copies at no charge to their agencies, a New York State employee must present a New York State Library borrower's card with patron type LEGIS or STATE embossed on it (old card), a new white New York State Library borrower's card, a Legislative Photo ID with the New York State Library "P number" affixed, a New York State Library Picture ID, or a New York State Library "photocopy only" card (yellow card).

Nongovernment Patrons

The public may use the 7th floor photocopy machines for $.25/page. If change is needed, see staff at the Circulation Desk. Other Library staff do not have access to change and are unable to make change of any kind. Checks are not accepted for work performed by patrons on site.

Library staff cannot provide receipts for work done by patrons on coin-operated machines. Patrons with large amounts of photocopying are encouraged to purchase a rechargeable copy card. Copy cards are available in a dispensing/revaluing station for a one-time fee of $1.00. For example, if you insert a $5.00 bill, you will receive a copy card which is charged with $4.00. Cards can be revalued. The price per copy will remain $.25 per page.

If the copying is done by State Library staff, the Document Delivery charges apply.

Requisitioning Photocopies

Free copying: State or legislative employees requesting free copying should include on the request slip the bibliographic citation (title, call number, volume, year and pages) of the material they want, along with their name, address, phone number, and email address, and submit the slip at the Circulation Desk.

Fee-based copying: Photocopying work which results in a charge requires a green Document Delivery Request form. These forms are available at the Reference Desk, Microform Area Desk, or the Circulation Desk. Indicate the service desired and the bibliographic citation of the work to be copied. Include your name, phone number, mailing address, and email address, and indicate in the Delivery area on the form how the work is to be delivered. Submit request forms to the Circulation Desk.

Note: It is the Library's policy to provide microfiche copies of works held in microfiche.

Microfilming

Microfilm copies of the Library's roll microfilm materials may be requested through Reference Services.

Additional Information

All copying at the State Library is subject to copyright regulations and is dependent on condition of the material. Photocopying of material in the Manuscripts and Special Collections area must be done by staff.
