New Online Resources

Mergent Online and Mergent BondViewer are now available from the New York State Library.  As a New York State government employee, you have free access to these new online resources 24/7 from work or home with your NYSL Borrower’s Card.

MergentOnline - The successor to the Moodys Manual series, Mergent Online provides a wealth of financial and directory-type information. For global public companies, it includes up to 15 years of customizable financial statement data, company histories, Moodys debt ratings and much more. Information on over 1,000,000 private companies worldwide is included in a Dun & Bradstreet component. A report builder function allows customizable analysis of the data.

Mergent BondViewer - Mergent BondViewer offers a wide range of up-to-date information on municipal and corporate bonds including ratings from Moody's, Standard and Poor's and Fitch. It has advanced search capabilities by company and industry and allows the creation of customized reports.

To use these new online resources, you will need a NYSL Borrower’s Card and PIN. If you don't have a NYSL Borrower's card, send an email to Circ@mail.nysed.gov or call the Circulation Desk at 518-473-7895 to request a Borrower's card application for NYS government employees. If you have questions about these or other online resources available from the NYSL, contact staff at the Reference Desk at 518-474-5355.

Podcasts 101

A podcast is a set of digital audio or video files that can be downloaded from the Internet to a mobile device or computer. To automatically download podcasts to your computer or MP3 player you need a podcatcher such as: Juice, Doppler, or iTunes. The PodcatcherMatrix at www.podcatchermatrix.org is a good site for assistance in choosing a podcatcher that fits your needs.

Podcasts make it possible for you to listen to content how and when you choose. The Library has been offering podcasts of the Talking Book & Braille Library's Newsletter Upstate Update since Spring 2007. If you are interested in learning more about podcasts or want to develop one yourself, the Library has the following books available: Podcast Academy: the Business Podcasting Book; Listen Up!: Podcasting for Schools and Libraries; and Podcasting 101 for Training and Development.
