Civil War Resources at the New York State Library

Did you know that the New York State Library holds an extensive collection of Civil War Soldier Boymaterial on the American Civil War? Civil War materials available at the State Library include: regimental and military histories, personal narratives, military records, general references, bibliographies, annual reports of the New York State Adjutant-General (which include registersof New York regiments), rosters of Confederate and Union soldiers, the OfficialRecords of the War of the Rebellion, documents and reports of federal agencies,lists of pensioners and numerous primary documents, such as letters, diaries,citations, personal and family papers, broadsides, prints, music, maps andatlases. To learn more about these resources please join us onSaturday, June 18th from 10:00 – 11:00 am in the 7thfloor Librarian’s Room for Civil War Records at the New YorkState Library and New York State Archives. Christine Beauregard, SeniorLibrarian at the New York State Library, will provide an overview of materialsin the State Library's collections that can be used to research the Civil War,including regimental units, individual soldiers, diaries, correspondence,broadsides, etc. Keith Swaney, Archives & Records Management Specialist atthe New York State Archives, will discuss materials in the State Archives'collections that can be used to research the Civil War such as the Civil WarSoldier database, abstracts of muster rolls, etc. This program is free and open to the public.
