Theodore Roosevelt Author and StatesmanAn Exhibit of His WorksRoosevelt is remembered chiefly today as one of the great political leaders and statesmen in American history and rightfully so. However, his earliest ambition and one which he continued to hold onto for his entire life was to be a writer, especially of natural history. His inexhaustible energy sustained his life as both a great statesman and author. During his career, he wrote over 2,000 articles, speeches and books – a production which would daunt most writers – and he wrote it all while leading one of the most active public lives of anyone in American history. The following images represent a sampling of the materials in the New York State Library’s extensive collection of works by and about Theodore Roosevelt.
