Processing the Abele Collection
The Completely Processed Collection
July 2, 2002
Shot of the new boxes now holding pieces of the Abele collection after much sorting and arranging of items in the collection.
Over several months, Fred flattened items and removed fasteners to prevent damage to the paper. He also noted if there were items in the collection that couldn't be unrolled or unfolded, if items were brittle or burned or dirty, if any items had mold or water damage or were torn.
Eventually, all the materials were housed in lignin-free folders, envelopes and/or boxes and labeled. The labels then were compiled into a box-and-folder list, which became part of the finding aid to the Abele Collection.
