NOVEL: New York Online Virtual Electronic Library

As stated in the guidelines for the NOVEL Invitational Grant Program, each grant project must have contained a training component. Several Library Systems chose to put their training materials online in the form of tutorials, factsheets, brochures, etc. Several systems also choose to upgrade their web sites to provide increased access and visibility to the NOVEL databases. The following is a list of web sites that were developed as reported in the library systems' final reports.

Federated Searching

• Elementary and secondary level projects involving NOVEL

Syracuse City School Library System

• Sample lesson plans involving NOVEL for elementary, middle and high school

Tutorials

Brooklyn Public Library

• A self-guided tutorial explaining the basics of the NOVEL databases

Clinton-Essex-Franklin Library System

• An assortment of NOVEL-related tutorials

Metropolitan New York Library Council

• A general guide to performing searches in the NOVEL databases, including short movies that demonstrate search techniques

Monroe County Library System

• A tutorial that teaches how to search for business information in the Business & Company Resource Center database
• A tutorial that teaches how to search for general reference information in the EBSCO MasterFILE Select database

Onondaga-Cortland-Madison BOCES School Library System

• A guide to using the EBSCO databases [.pdf format]

Southern Tier Library System

• A NOVEL resource page including a variety of training materials
