Below are some interesting and unique training projects undertaken by the various library systems as part of
their NOVEL Invitational grants.
Library systems:
Created an interactive booth used to explain and demonstrate the NOVEL databases at a variety of tradeshows
and educational conferences.
Focused on integrating NOVEL resources into the K-12 research process.
Targeted a diverse audience for training that included the staff aides of key governmental opinion and decision
makers, members of non-profit organizations and associations, and librarians and archivists.
Collaborated to launch a massive television and radio advertising campaign during National Library Week.
Created and distributed a DVD tutorial that facilitates and integrates the use of NOVEL databases with the
use of regional catalogs and interlibrary loan.
Loaded MARC records of all full-text or abstracted NOVEL titles into their system's catalog.
Provided subject specific database training by librarian "subject experts."
Created MARC records of all full-text or abstracted NOVEL titles that are searchable from system web pages.
Used videoconferencing equipment to remotely broadcast to four libraries, allowing two-way communication and
extended training to staff members who were not able to come to the session.
Provided training or promotion to local legislators and officials in nine systems.
