Nursing Homes in New York State

The New York State Health Department is now posting expanded information on nursing homes across the State.

"The Health Department has posted information on the outcomes of routine annual inspections of all 673 nursing homes statewide for several years. The expanded data will include more descriptive information about licensed nursing homes, including:

Medicare and Medicaid certification status;
Available services and accommodations;
Latest available occupancy rates;
Ownership and administration — including a listing of other long-term care facilities they operate;
Local ombudsman representative and relevant contact information; and
Surveillance history — including information on complaint investigations in addition to routine annual survey outcomes."

New York State Talking Book & Braille Library - (TBBL) lends braille and recorded books and magazines, and the necessary equipment to play recorded books, to residents of the 55 upstate counties of New York State who are unable to read standard printed materials because of a visual or physical disability. Online Verification Searches - The Office of the Professions regulates forty-seven professions, including Nurse (RN and LPN), Nurse Practictioner, Certified Dietician, Certified Nutritionist, and other professions which may be employed in Nursing Homes and other health-related facilities. Users can search by licensee name or license number within a profession.

Federal Government Resource:

Nursing Home Compare from Medicare.gov provides detailed information about the past performance of every Medicare and Medicaid certified nursing home in the country. Users can search by state, county, city, Zip code, or nursing home name. (A NYSL Featured Site in November 2003.)
