- December 2000: Marketing Violent
Entertainment to Children: A Review of Self-Regulation and
Industry Practices in the Motion Picture, Music Recording and
Electronic Game Industries is 116-page report published
by the Federal Trade Commission
(FTC). Released in September, 2000, it is the result of a
study of the movie, music recording and computer and video game
industries, undertaken by the FTC and the Department of Justice
at President Clinton's request, following the high school
shootings in Littleton, Colorado in April, 1999.
- November 2000: The 2001 Consumer Action
Handbook, published by the Federal Consumer Information
Center is a resource for getting the most for your money.
This concise guide provides advice and consumer tips on: car
repair, purchase, and leasing; shopping from home; avoiding
consumer and investment fraud; home improvement and financing;
choosing and using credit cards wisely; and much more.
- October 2000: The United States
Government Manual is the official handbook of the
Federal Government. Imagine a handbook of almost 700 pages! But
it's easy to find information in this one. The document is online
in several formats, and is searchable and browsable. Focusing on
programs and activities, the Manual is published as a special
edition of the Federal Register.
- September 2000: Canajohary: The
Archeology of Mohawk River Trade and Transport in the
1790s - This publication was developed from data
compiled by The Durham Project - an archeological research
project at the New York State Museum dedicated to documenting,
preserving and interpreting physical remains associated with the
era of the Western Inland Lock Navigation Company [1792 - 1820] -
New York's first canal company.

- July 2000:First
Amendment Handbook - The Reporters Committee for Freedom
of the Press. This brief online handbook is intended to provide a
free source of information to reporters working in the United
States on the laws affecting news gathering and
dissemination.
- June 2000: A Citizen's Guide on Using
The Freedom of Information Act and The Privacy Act of 1974 to
Request Government Records - First Report by the
Committee on Government Reform and Oversight, March 20, 1997.
Many people want to know how they can request government
information under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA).
According to the Preface, the original version of this
Citizen's Guide was one of the most widely read
congressional committee reports in history.
- May 2000: New York by
Theodore Roosevelt, 1899 edition. - New York covers the
city's history beginning with "Discovery and First Settlement
1609- 1626" through "The Reform Victory of 1895".
- April 2000: "Why Can't I Get Tickets?"
Report on Ticket Distribution Practices - From the New York State Office of the
Attorney General, "This report is intended to shed light on
the largely underground and unexamined ticket distribution system
in New York, a system which diverts the most desirable sports,
concert and theatre tickets away from the general public."
- March 2000: Preservation of
Library & Archival Materials: A Manual (Third
Edition, Revised and Expanded, Edited by Sherelyn Ogden, Northeast Document Conservation
Center, Andover, Massachusetts 1999. - This authoritative and
recently updated collection of fifty technical leaflets in
layman's language contains preservation information which
includes: Planning & Prioritizing, the Environment, Emergency
Management, Storage & Handling, Reformatting, and
Conservation Procedures. The new edition also includes new
sections on digital format conversion. The online manual will be
updated on a regular basis.
- February 2000: First Draft of George
Washington's Farewell Address - One of the most famous
documents in American history, George Washington's Farewell
Address, is preserved in its first draft in the collections of
the New York State Library. Penned in Washington's own
handwriting, complete with strike-outs and corrections, the
19-page document was drafted and sent to Alexander Hamilton for
comment on May 15, 1796.
- January 2000: Consumer Law Help
Manual - The New York State Consumer Protection Board's
Consumer Law Help Manual is a tool created to help
educate consumers. The document contains useful information about
a wide range of consumer interests.
