The New York State Library prepared these library aid charts in order to project estimated aid payments of 2004-2005 State aid for libraries.
Library aid is allocated based on formulas in Education Law with the exception of the interinstitutional (county jail) program, which is an annual $175,000 appropriation. Some aid formulas include per capita or per student factors. The 2004-2005 Education Law amounts are based on the 2000 decennial census. As a result, the 2004-2005 Education Law amount may vary from what would be anticipated based on last year’s figures.
A total of $84.422 million for aid to libraries was appropriated by the Executive and the Legislature in 2004-2005. This is a reduction of $4.443 million from the 2003-2004 appropriation of $88.865 million.
Due to special provisions in the 2004-2005 State budget passed by the Executive and Legislature, the allocation
of library aid for 2004-2005 will be an across-the-board reduction of 4.79% from the amount allocated in 2003-2004.
The amounts in these charts do not include the $1.7 million appropriated for The New York Public Library services
to the City University of New York or $850,000 for The New York Public Library’s Science, Industry and Business
Library.
