2002-2003 Library Aid Charts
Estimated Figures Based on Legislative Action

Revised May 29, 2002

The Division of Library Development, New York State Library, New York State Education Department prepared these library aid charts in order to project estimated aid payments of 2002-2003 State aid for libraries.

Due to special provisions in the 2002-2003 State budget passed by the Governor and Legislature, the allocation of library aid for 2002-2003 is the same as for 2001-2002. No library or program will be allocated less library aid in 2002-2003 than the amount allocated in 2001-2002.

Library aid is allocated based on formulas in Education Law with the exception of the interinstitutional (county jail) program which is an annual $175,000 appropriation. Some aid formulas include per capita or per student factors. The 2002-2003 Education Law amounts are based on the 2000 decennial census. As a result, the 2002-2003 Education Law amount may vary from what would be anticipated based on last year's figures.

The amounts in these charts do not include the $2 million proposed by the Governor for The New York Public Library services to the City University of New York or $1 million for NYPL's Science, Industry and Business Library.
