Customer Service Training - Year 2 will continue the New York Public Library's initiative to equip staff of the Branch Libraries with necessary interpersonal skills to effectively serve New York City's diverse populations, including users of all ages, backgrounds, education and income levels. Since the project began in October 2002, over 500 full-time and part-time public service staff at all levels have received training in customer service skills. In this project, training will be extended to 540 additional librarians, information assistants, and clerical staff. The training is resulting in improved public service to library users by focusing on the basics of customer service; positive approaches to problematic people, and sensitivity to users with disabilities, diverse ethnic backgrounds, language skills, ages, and income levels.
