Provision for public vote on library trustees – see bolded section below
I. Membership of the Library Association
Any person over 18 years of age may become a member of the Library Association by signing the registration membership card.
II. Meetings of Members of the Association:
Library year: Annual Meeting: The library year shall close with December 31st and an annual meeting of members of the Association shall be held at the library at 8:00 P.M. on the 3rd Monday of January to receive and consider the yearly reports of the Board of Trustees and of other officers of the library; and for the election of officers and trustees. The annual meeting shall be announced in a local newspaper.
III Notices of meetings shall be mailed by the Secretary at least five days prior to the meeting.
IV Trustees must be members of the Library Association.
Sixty days prior to the annual meeting, an announcement shall be posted within the library soliciting nominations for library trustee seats that may be vacant and/or will be up for election at the upcoming annual meeting. The announcement shall specify that nominations must be received by the Secretary of the Library Association no later than 30 days prior to the annual meeting. To be valid a nomination must include written confirmation from the nominee of their willingness to perform the duties of a library trustee, which shall be posted along with the notice soliciting nominations. All nominations received shall be placed on the ballot at the annual meeting. The election at the annual meeting shall be by voice vote except in cases where there are more nominations than available seats on the Board. In this case, the vote shall be by written ballot with the results being tabulated, certified and announced by the Secretary of the Library Association. Members of the Library Association must be present at the annual meeting to cast their vote.
