it will be used for evaluation purposes.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Does the Gates Foundation or WebJunction require or recommend that trainers be bilingual?
A. No.
Q. Are local participants required to attend all three workshops or just one?
A. Local participants only need to attend one workshop because all three workshops will contain the same curriculum.
Q. Will the workshops be full-day, for example 9-4?
A. The curriculum is designed as an all-day workshop. Some states have split the workshops between two days,
so that trainers deliver half the workshop on one day, either in the morning or afternoon, and the training is
concluded the following day.
Q. Does a workshop participant need full-time Internet access to participate in the workshops?
A. No. Part of the workshop curriculum will include a tutorial on the WebJunction web site and how to use its
resources. Some library staff may not have full-time access to the Internet. During the occasional LiveMeeting
webinar sessions, Internet connections or phone connections may be used by a workshop participant. So if the workshop
participant has access to a phone line, he or she may listen to the conference call and, if needed, view a recording
of the meeting on an Internet capable computer later.
Q. Will the trainer be expected to share Institute knowledge with local library staff who do not attend
one of the three workshops conducted by the trainer?
A. This is not a project requirement. However, it is assumed that trainers will share what they have learned
with their own library and library system as well as with those who attend the three workshops they conduct.
Q. May two systems cooperate and select a trainer who would train individuals in both systems?
A. Yes! Systems are encouraged to partner. However, WebJunction and the State Library consider the system that
sends the trainer to the Train-the-Trainer Institute the lead system. Workshop funds will only be provided to the
lead system.
Q. Do community leader panelists count as participants in the workshops?
A. Community leaders serving on the panel are not counted as workshop participants and are not expected to do
the follow-up activities, unless they also register as full workshop participants.
Q. How do I identify and contact community leaders for Spanish-speaking populations?
A. Please see the following two documents that discuss community leaders:
Q. May local elected officials serve on the community panel?
A. Yes. SEE: WebJunction
message board where Round One trainers have discussed how they identified and recruited panel members
Q. The workshops must be delivered between October 2006 and May 2007. Does that mean the end of May?
A. Yes.
A. WebJunction highlights trainers on their web site to help share successes and challenges experienced by communities
and states.
Q. Will the State Library require any special reporting?
A. The State Library will not require any reporting beyond that required by WebJunction and the Gates Foundation.
Q. If library trustees choose to participate in workshops, are they expected to follow-up their training
with the same activities expected of library staff participants, e.g., an action plan?
A. Ideally, a trustee would attend with a staff member from their library and the staff member would be carrying
out the activities with the trustee's support. It would be appropriate for a trustee to carry out some of the follow-up
activities.
Q. Who can attend these one-day workshops?
A. Library staff and trustees from all kinds of libraries, including public and school libraries, academic and
special libraries and correctional facility libraries.
Q. What is WebJunction?
A. It is an online community where library staff can share ideas, solve problems, take online courses and communicate
with each other. See www.webjunction.org for information
and national Spanish Language
Outreach Program information.
