Western Sullivan Public Library, Delaware Free Branch (Callicoon, Sullivan Co.)

The Western Sullivan Public Library received $5,548 from the $800,000 Public Library Construction Grant Program to renovate the Delaware Free Branch. The project entailed three main parts—renovating a storage area, renovating a bathroom, and creating a kitchenette. First, a hall storage closet was removed and the area turned into a space for children’s materials and a spot for Early Literacy computer terminals. This will allow for greater storage for children’s books and movies and will allow children to use educational software. Next, an unused shower stall was removed from the bathroom to create a new closet to store the items from the former hallway storage. Also, the window in the restroom was replaced with a more energy efficient model. Finally, a kitchenette was added to allow refreshments at library programming such as meetings, children’s events, and the afterschool program. These projects will all help to increase the services offered by the library.
