Westport Library Association (Essex Co.)
The Westport Library Association received funds from the $14 Million Public Library Construction Grant Program to replace the railing that runs along the sidewalk that leads from downtown to the library. The library’s original sidewalk railing was rusted through in several places, had missing cross-pieces, was unsafe and unsightly, and did not meet building codes. Replacement of the railing has made access to the library safer and provides more secure pedestrian access to unstable walkers. The population of Westport has a high proportion of older people, which increases the need for good pedestrian access to the library.
