Waterloo Library and Historical Society (Seneca County)
The Waterloo Library and Historical Society received $215,372 from the $14 Million Public Library Construction Grant Program for the restoration of 139 stained glass panels, repairs to wooden sashes for 22 windows and the installation of glass protective coverings for the windows. As part of a general restoration project, 139 historic stained glass panels, installed during the original construction of the library, were first removed using scaffolding and hydraulic lifts, sent to a glass studio where they were disassembled, cleaned, restored, and reassembled, and finally, reinstalled at the library. Additionally, the wooden sashes for the 22 openings were repaired, and the windows were covered with protective laminate glass, which will increase energy efficiency. This restoration ensures that library patrons will enjoy these intricate and historic pieces for years to come.
