Henry Waldinger Memorial Library, Valley Stream
Henry Waldinger Memorial Library in Valley Stream (Nassau County) has undergone a number of interior renovations this past year. The 2004-05 construction aid grant was applied to electrical and networking work designed to allow for an increase from three to five public computer stations in the adult library as well as the installation of four public computer stations in the children's library. All of the stations were equipped with properly designed tables -- "not the makeshift accommodations" previously provided.
In addition, to address the problem of disturbing ambient noise, sound absorbing carpet was laid to cover the entire hard vinyl floor and sound absorbing decorative panels now cover the cement blocks walls. Finally, a corner of the children's library now has a new seating area for story telling and a craft area was set aside for children's programming. It is no longer necessary to infringe on the use of the children's library collection when a program is underway.
Library Director Marshall Botwinick wrote, "Though the grant was only for the electrical and data portion of this project, that work though unseen is an underpinning of the entire renovation."
Electrical and networking work allowed for more public computer stations; new carpeting, and new seating area for story telling are among other improvements at the Library . Click on any of the above images to see a larger version. |
