The library utilized a state construction grant during the 2005-06 grant cycle to replace its exterior doors. The new doors are more energy efficient and secure, and added to the appearance of the library. One of the new doors also has an automatic opener to assist our patrons with accessibility issues. The library, built in 1966, also needs to update the décor of the basement and second floor meeting rooms, and update main floor and exterior seating. The library is considering applying for construction aid through the New York state $14 Million public library construction grant program. Architectural studies have already been completed.

The Moore Memorial Library was built in 1904, and was last renovated in 1978. The library's most pressing need at this time is additional space. Originally the library was built to house 7,500 volumes and now houses over 35,000. The library is currently in the middle of a construction project that will address the needs of a new addition, furnishings, and renovation of the existing building. Phase 1 of the project, to build the connector that will link the existing building with the new addition, began in August 2006 and will conclude approximately June of 2007. Also, being built at this time will be a new handicapped accessible entrance and amphitheater for programming. HVAC systems will be upgraded throughout the building and a computer lab will be installed. This phase is expected to cost approximately $550,000. The second phase will be to build the shell of the addition. The total cost of construction is $3,500,000.

The Elting Memorial Library was originally constructed around 1800 as the Solomon Elting Homestead. It is an example of the Dutch stone vernacular architecture found in Ulster County especially on Historic Huguenot Street in New Paltz, Hurley, and the stockade area of Kingston. The building was gifted to the community for a library in 1920. Additions were made to the library in 1962 and 1978. The library was placed on the National and State register of Historic places in 2004.

The library began a construction project, to build an addition and renovate the existing building, in January 2005. Actual construction began in late August, 2006. The project is staged and financed over five years with a completion date of 2010. All construction needs will be met upon completion of the project. The library is planning to apply for construction aid through the New York state $14 Million public library construction grant program to remedy ADA issues not known at the time of construction, to complete the exterior restoration of the land-marked stone building, and for additional shelving needed for the new addition.

The Allens Hill Free Library was built in 1970, and was last expanded and renovated in 2004. The Library currently is without plumbing and lacks enough property to install a septic system and well. Patrons needing to use the restroom are forced to use an incinolet toilet and antibacterial wipes. The library is in the process of securing an acre of property to adjoin the current lot in order to perform the necessary plumbing construction.

The Lyons Public Library was originally constructed in 1860 and has had no significant additions or renovations since. Currently, the library is overcrowded and unable to meet the needs of the community. In December 2005, the school district passed a $1,500,000 bond referendum for the renovation of a new building and construction of a 7,480 square foot addition. Construction is scheduled to begin in spring 2007.

The Red Creek Free Library was originally constructed in 1700 and has not had any significant additions or renovations since. The library's primary need at this time is additional space and a public meeting area. Currently the library is planning to remove a portion of the wall separating the library vestibule from the interior, along with the interior door, to allow for easier access to the library and create more useable space. The library is also planning to construct a custom circulation desk/work area that will make better use of limited space and free up some additional space. The estimated cost of construction is $10,000. The library is planning to apply for construction aid through the New York state $14 Million public library construction grant program.

The Walworth-Seely Public Library was built in 1992 and has had no significant additions or renovations since. The library has seen a dramatic increase in circulation over the past 13 years, 35,162 in 1993 to 99,905 in 2005. Currently, the library is in need of additional space to accommodate programming, a study area, and a teen/young adult area. The library is currently surveying groups of stakeholders for input into what the new library should have.
The Long Range Planning Community Advisory Committee determined that the three service responses that the library should have are: commons, life-long learning, and current titles and topics. To meet these needs, additional space is critical.

The Stevens Memorial Community Library was built in 1892, and was last expanded in 1991. Handicapped accessibility is a central issue for the library. Currently, the main entrance and many of the adult book shelves are not handicapped accessible. The Stevens Memorial Community Library is currently updating lighting fixtures in the original building and in the front addition. The fixtures are not energy efficient and have become brittle during the last 35 years. These lights will be new electronic starters and will be able to be duplicated for the long-range plan listed below. The library is also replacing the 18-year-old furnace that heats the back portion of the library making sure it will accommodate the planned long-range construction. The new energy efficient furnace will be installed to increase energy use with the other efficient furnace for the front of the building.

The library's long range plan is to build an addition to the front and back of the library. The new additions would move the main entrance off the side of the building to the back of the building, allowing for improved safety and accessible doors for the handicapped and children.
