James Prendergast Library Association (Chautauqua Co.)
The James Prendergast Library Association received $5,412 from the $800,000 Public Library Construction Grant Program to install snowguards at the base of the peaked metal roof over the original building which is surrounded on three sides by additions with lower flat roofs. Prior to the installation of the new guards, the snow on the peaked roof would slide off and land on the flat roofs with tremendous force, causing leaks and the weakening of the roof’s structure. Snowguards at the base of the peaked roof has made the library a safer place for library patrons and has reduced the risk of library materials being ruined from unexpected leaks.
