Peninsula Public Library (Lawrence, Nassau County)
The Peninsula Public Library received $13,245 from the $14 Million Public Library Construction Grant Program to perform asbestos abatement. In the original construction of the library building, asbestos was used as insulation in the boiler, on pipes, and on the ceiling of the mechanical room. Half of the asbestos was removed in 1989, and now the library needs to remove the rest from the mechanical room. With the removal of the asbestos, the library will be a safer environment.
