Mattituck-Laurel Library (Suffolk County)
The Mattituck-Laurel Library received $44,000 from the $14 million Public Library Construction Grant Program to construct a 500 square foot addition to the Children’s and Parenting Services Department. The addition will create a space for “tweens,” children ages 8-12, to access materials and services geared to their age level. Before the addition, tween materials were shelved in the section for children and toddlers. With the new space, children will be able to find age-appropriate materials and have a better space for individual reading that is separate from the younger children and teenagers. In the new space, tweens can have a sense of ownership of an area dedicated to their needs.
