Lyell Branch Library of the Rochester Public Library (Monroe County Library System)

The Lyell Branch of the Rochester Public Library completed construction in late 2005 of a 1,385 square foot addition that will serve as a multipurpose "Commons area" as well as provide for secure storage space and a custodial closet. The Commons area will enable the Branch Library to "provide after school homework assistance, programs for adults, pre-school story hours, and a summer reading program with weekly programs that will attract youth…" It will also allow for book sales, class visits, neighborhood meetings, evening adult and youth computer training programs, and serve as a place for voter registration and polling on Election Day. State construction aid money was used to help pay for the installation of a heating and air conditioning system in the Branch Library's new addition.
