Lee-Whedon Memorial Library (Orleans Co.)
The Lee-Whedon Memorial Library received $12,855 from the 2008-2009 $14 Million Public Library Construction Grant Program for the reconfiguration of current library space and the construction of a new circulation area to accommodate increased circulation and new technology. The previous circulation desk, situated in the center of the library, measured only 25 inches wide, providing inadequate space to handle circulation functions, and presenting challenges such as increased congestion of materials and patrons waiting for service. The construction project has increased the circulation area by 60 percent and is situated in a location that provides the library with the ability to separate library administrative functions from the scope of services offered to patrons. Additionally, the new circulation area offers increased accessibility to patrons with disabilities. Overall, these improvements allow staff to serve patrons more efficiently and general library services to operate more effectively.
