Ilion Free Public Library (Herkimer Co.)

The Ilion Free Public Library received $104,059 from the $14 Million Public Library Construction Grant Program for the complete renovation of the basement to create usable space, and the installation of an elevette to make the new space accessible from the main floor. Previously, the library building contained two meeting rooms that were constantly in use by various groups, including more than 25 non-profit organizations, workshops, summer programming, tutoring and mentoring programs, and early literacy education. In order to accommodate the growing demand for library facilities, the basement has been renovated to create an additional 3,000 square feet of usable space, including additional meeting rooms and a staff work area. In order to maintain accessibility and meet ADA guidelines, the library has also installed an elevette, which will transport impaired and disabled individuals to the areas on the lower level.
