Hay Memorial Library of Sackets Harbor (Jefferson Co.)

The Hay Memorial Library of Sackets Harbor received $2,947 from the $14 Million Public Library Construction Grant Program to purchase a back-up generator.  The library is in a location that is prone to basement flooding during heavy rains.  When the library was built, precautions were taken to prevent basement flooding, including waterproofing, drainage, and a sump pump system.  However, if the power were to fail during a heavy rain, the sump pump would not be able to drain the basement, causing damage to anything in the basement, including the furnace and elevator hydraulic pump.  With an emergency generator, the sump pump will be able to work during a power failure.
