Freeport Memorial Library (Nassau Co.)
The Freeport Memorial Library received $94,285 from the $14 Million Public Library Construction Grant Program for the removal of asbestos, reconstruction and installation of new flooring, shelving and furniture for Children’s Room, and the reconstruction of the circulation desk. The Children’s Room had not been updated in 23 years. In order to begin reconstruction, shelving and furniture were removed to allow for asbestos abatement in the flooring, and the walls were repainted. Additionally, electrical wiring and outlets were reconfigured to accommodate new computer arrangements in the space. To better accommodate mothers with strollers, small children and wheelchair bound patrons, the circulation area in the library was also redesigned, including repositioning of the electrical outlets and wiring, removal of a portion of the concrete floor and replacement of the old circulation desk with a new, ADA compliant desk. With these improvements, the Freeport Memorial Library is better able to offer patrons a positive library experience with a new Children’s Room and improved accessibility at the Circulation Desk.
