Evans Mills Public Library (Jefferson Co.)
The Evans Mills Public Library received $5,326 from the $14 million Public Library Construction Grant Program to construct a roof over the handicapped access ramp, install an intercom at the handicapped access door, and to install an awning over the main entrance and the two lower windows. Prior to construction of the roof, snow and ice would fall on to the ramp causing it to become slippery and dangerous for library patrons. The new roof over the handicapped ramp has made the library more accessible to patrons with disabilities during winter months. Installation of an awning over the door and two lower front windows has also made the library more inviting. The awnings eliminate the glare on the computers, reduce the sun damage to materials that are in display windows, and reduce the cost of air conditioning during the summer months.
