David A. Howe Public Library (Allegany Co.)
The David A. Howe Public Library received $19,211 from the $14 Million Public Library Construction Grant Program for the restoration of historic doors leading to the building’s 5,200 square foot terrace. This project included the installation of electronic door openers to improve accessibility, as well as crash bars for public safety. The previous doors were in poor condition and provided very little accessibility to disabled and elderly patrons and families with small children. As the terrace is a very important part of the community services offered by the library, the reconstruction of this entryway was crucial to library operations. The library is now able to provide access to an increased number of patrons, and the community can continue to enjoy the extensive terrace space as a public reading area and community center.
