Canton Free Library (St. Lawrence Co.)
The Canton Free Library received $4,953 from the $14 Million Public Library Construction Grant Program for the installation of a wall to create a new teen area and purchase of new furniture for the area. The library has seen a dramatic increase in the number of teens visiting the library and participating in library programs. The staff saw it necessary to create a designated space for teens that would allow them to continue activities, while at the same time maintaining the same accessibility of general library services for other patrons. The new teen area includes a partition wall, a new computer, and new comfortable seating. After extensive research and the completion of the project, the library is better able to offer the specialized services for a younger population of library users.
