Brooklyn Public Library Central Library (Kings Co.)

The Brooklyn Public Library received $1,111,036 from the $14 Million Public Library Construction Grant Program for the renovation of administrative offices and the lobby café, and the installation of a new safety and fire detection system for the entire building. The new safety and fire detection system brings the library up to code for a multi-story, 350,000 square foot building. The new administrative offices maximize the space available for the library staff and meetings. The library has reconfigured and expanded the café to allow for increases to the cooking and storage areas, as well as increased seating capacity, which allows the library to serve as host for special events in the area. Also included were improvements to food preparation and customer counter space, and customer seating including new tables and chairs.   Overall, these improvements improve the work and public environment, ensuring the safety of all patrons and staff, and increase the library’s ability to serve its community in new and exciting ways.
