Aurora Free Library Association (Cayuga Co.)

The Aurora Free Library Association received $48,940 from the $14 Million Public Library Construction Grant Program for the restoration of the front entrance stone steps and the replacement of stair railings. This phase, as part of a larger renovation project, focused on restoring badly deteriorated stone steps and railings, and bringing the entryway up to code to ensure the safety of patrons and staff. A new foundation for the steps was constructed, deteriorating stonework was replaced with new limestone, and ADA compliant, three-bar railings were installed in place of old pipe railings. Additionally, all of these improvements were undertaken with a focus on maintaining the aesthetic qualities of the original structure, including maintenance of the color and texture of the original stone as well as decorative qualities of the railings.
