The New York State Legislature provided an appropriation of $14 million in capital funds for public library construction in the 2011-2012 State Budget. Libraries could apply for a construction grant that could fund up to 50 percent of a project. The minimum grant award was $2,500 (for a total project cost of $5,000 with matching funds from the library). The New York State Library has awarded 192 construction grants to public libraries and public library systems in legislative districts throughout New York State.
