Announce Program for Free Music CD Distribution to Public Library Systems
As the result of a settlement in a 43-state antitrust case related to the pricing of music CDs, New York's 23 public library systems will receive 220,439 free music CDs. The nationwide settlement includes a direct cash distribution to individual consumers as well as a distribution of over $75 million in CDs nationwide to libraries, schools and other non-profit organizations. Under New York's plan, the public library systems will receive 60 percent of New York's share of the music CDs.
The 220,439 CDs that will be distributed to New York public library systems include 1,900 different music titles in 11 music genres: Rock (1), Country (2), Blues (3), Jazz (4), Roots (5), Classical (6), Latin (7), Other (8), Soundtrack (9), Children's Music (10) and Christmas Music (11). Distribution of CDs began the week of October 11, 2004.
