Additional information regarding dissolution of a public library
Municipal Public Library:
In addition to the other documents named on this web page, a certified copy of a resolution adopted by the governing body of the municipality consenting to the dissolution is required.
School District Public Library:
In addition to the other documents named on this web page, the following are required:
- a certified copy of the results of a vote by the electorate on the question of dissolving the library
- a certified copy of the legal notice calling the meeting (election) at which the vote is held
NOTE: See sample library board resolution
The library board resolution which accompanies a dissolution petition must be adopted at a legal meeting of the library Board of Trustees by an affirmative vote of not less than three-fourths of the whole number of trustees, authorizing two or more officers to submit the petition to the Board of Regents.
Note that this resolution is not required if the petition is signed by at least three-fourths of the whole number of trustees.
