New Resource :

Brainfuse's JobNow service provides career information, résumé templates, and assistance in writing résumés and cover letters, as well as the interview process. It also provides job listings, sample GED and citizenship tests, and subject tests. A live tutor is available to assist with résumés, interviews, tests, writing and career assessments. Résumés can also be submitted for comments.

Our subscription to Loislaw will change on May 10, 2011. Remote (off-site) access will include New York and federal materials (case law, statutes and acts, administrative rules and regulations, and court rules). Other states' materials, New York Bar CLE Publications and some treatises will no longer be accessible remotely but they will be available onsite. Access to federated searching on the NYSL website (searching our journals and databases using the search box or "Advanced Search" link at the top of many of our webpages) ceased as of Monday, October 25. We regret any inconvenience this might cause.

Our databases and journals can still be accessed from the subject list or the alphabetical list. If you need further assistance please call the Reference Desk at (518) 474-5355.

NOVELNY: Federated searching on the NOVELNY website (searching multiple NOVELNY journals and databases at the same time) also ceased on October 25. If you use the "Search All Resources" box you will be taken to a page with options to search each database separately.  This decision was made after examining use of this feature on novelnewyork.org, and in consultation with the NOVELNY Steering Committee.

Please note that all New York Gannett newspapers have been removed from the Newsbank database, America's Newspapers. The State Library no longer has access to the Elmira Star-Gazette, Ithaca Journal, Press and Sun-Bulletin (Binghamton), Rochester Democrat and Chronicle, Westchester Journal News, or Poughkeepsie Journal in any online database.

Newspapers recently added to the State Library's subscription to America's Newspapers include The Evening Telegram (Herkimer), Indian Country Today, Long Beach Herald, Register-Star (Hudson), Saugerties Post Star, Suffolk County News, and others.

Readers Guide Full Text (1983-present)

The New York State Library will no longer provide access to Readers' Guide Full Text 1983-present as of 4/1/2010. We regret any inconvenience that this may cause. Readers' Guide Retrospective (1969-1982) will continue to be available. Alternative general periodical databases available through the New York State Library are Academic Search Complete and ProQuest Platinum.

Vendor Change:
NTIS and GeoRef

To provide improved access at reduced cost, the State Library will now offer NTIS and GeoRef databases through Elsevier's Engineering Village service. While migrating, there may be a brief period of time when remote access is not yet available. During the week of October 19th patrons may call the Library's Reference Desk at 474-5355 and request a search in NTIS or GeoRef mediated by a librarian through another service. Thank you for your patience.
