19th Century Masterfile

A resource for pre-1920 studies that contains indexes to historical periodicals (1802 to 1906), including the New York Times and the New York Daily Tribune.


ABI/INFORM Dateline

North American business periodicals from 800 sources provide information on advertising, economics, human resources, finance, marketing, computers and more. In addition, there is information on over 60,000 companies. Part of ABI/Inform Complete.


ABI/INFORM Global

A database that covers business, finance and economics, ABI/INFORM Global contains journals (including the Wall Street Journal) and company profiles, providing a comprehensive way to explore and understand business research topics. Nearly 1800 worldwide business periodicals provide in-depth coverage of business and economic conditions, management techniques, theory, and practice of business, advertising, marketing, economics, human resources, finance, taxation, computers, and more. There is also information on 60,000 + companies with business and executive profiles. Part of ABI/INFORM Complete.


ABI/INFORM Trade and Industry

More than 750 business periodicals and newsletters with a trade or industry focus. Provides users with the latest industry news, product and competitive information, marketing trends, and a wide variety of other topics. Contains publications on every major industry, including finance, insurance, transportation, construction, and many more.


Academic Search Complete

Over 5,500 full-text periodicals, including over 4,000 peer-reviewed journals. In addition it indexes and abstracts over 10,000 publications including journals, monographs, reports, & conference proceedings. The database features PDF content back to 1865, and searchable cited references for nearly 1,000 titles. It covers a wide range of subjects including animal science, anthropology, area studies, astronomy, biology, chemistry, engineering, multicultural studies, food science & technology, general science, geography, geology, law, materials science, mathematics, music, pharmaceutical sciences, physics, psychology, religion & theology, veterinary science, women's studies, zoology, and more.


Accessible Archives

Online databases of primary source material from 18th & 19th centuries, including coverage of the Colonial Period, The French & Indian War, the Revolutionary War, the Civil War, African-American History, and the Industrial Revolution. Users may search across all of the databases simultaneously or search only selected databases. The six databases are: Godey's Ladys Book 1830-1880; The Pennsylvania Gazette from 1728-1800; The Civil War: A Newspaper Perspective Nov. 1860 - April 1865; African American Newspapers: The 19th Century; The Pennsylvania Newspaper Record: Delaware County 1819-1870; and The Pennsylvania Genealogical Catalogue: Chester County 1809-1870.


African American Experience

African American history and culture is broken into topics such as history, biography, literature, arts, culture, business, civil rights, politics, sports, education, science, and more. Books, documents, WPA slave narratives, encyclopedia articles, and audio clips are some of the document types included.


African American Newspapers: The 19th Century

The database consists of six newspapers: The Freedom's Journal, The Colored American, The North Star, Frederick Douglass Paper, The National Era, Provincial Freeman, and The Christian Recorder. Dates covered are 1827-1902.


Alt-Health Watch

1990+. A full-text database offering 50,000 articles on complementary, holistic and integrated approaches to health care, and wellness. Also includes pamphlets, booklets, special reports, original research and book excerpts.


AMED (Alternative Medicine)

AMED (provided by the Health Care Information Service of the British Library) is an alternative medicine database including information on complementary medicine, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, rehabilitation, podiatry, palliative care, and more. Coverage begins in 1979 for some titles. AMED covers relevant references to articles from over 400 journals (197 journals indexed in AMED are available in full text in Academic Search Premier). The scope of coverage is mainly European, with the majority of titles in English.


America: History and Life

This database contains abstracts from 2,000+ journals (from 1964 forward), providing historical coverage of the United States and Canada from prehistory to the present. Includes fulltext linking to matching Oxford University Press and Project Muse journals.


America's Historical Newspapers

Early American newspapers published between 1690 and 1922, including titles from all 50 present states. The over 150 New York newspaper selections include newspapers from Albany, Ballston Spa, Cooperstown, Hudson, Ithaca, New York City, Rochester, Schenectady, Sing-Sing, Troy, and Utica. (PDF option available on view screen.) Files may be saved as Adobe Acrobat files.


America's Newspapers: New York

Full text coverage of a wide range of New York State newspapers from Albany, Batavia, Binghamton, Buffalo, Elmira, Ithaca, Lewisboro, Long Island, New York City, Poughkeepsie, Rochester, Saratoga, Suffolk county, Syracuse, Troy, Utica, Watertown, and Westchester county.

Titles include the Buffalo News, Ithaca Journal, Journal News (Westchester), Newsday, Times Union (Albany), New York Times, Poughkeepsie Journal, Observer-Dispatch (Utica), Post Standard (Syracuse), Press & Sun Bulletin (Binghamton), Rochester Democrat and Chronicle, and more. Dates of coverage vary with the newspaper.


Anthropology Plus

Contains two major anthropology indexs from the late 1800s to present in the fields of social, cultural, physical, biological, and linguistic anthropology; ethnology, archaeology, folklore, and material culture; and interdisciplinary studies. Other subjects include art history, demography, economics, genetics, geography, geology, history, religion, and sociology.


AnthroSource

AnthroSource contains a retrospective archive of peer-reviewed journals, newsletters, and bulletins published by the American Anthropological Association - over 100 years of published scholarly research across approximately 31 publications.


Applied Science and Technology Abstracts

Indexing 3/1983+. Abstracts 10/1993+. Covers topics such as acoustics, aeronautics, artificial intelligence, chemistry, computers, engineering, geology, plastics, textiles, and more.


Avery Index to Architectural Periodicals

Avery Index to Architectural Periodicals indexes the current periodical literature of architecture and design. It covers the international scholarly and popular literature, as well as the publications of professional associations, US state and regional periodicals, and major serial publications in the architecture and design of Europe, Asia, Latin America, and Australia.


Big Online America

Big Online contains information on the largest private and public foundations, grants from US government agencies, and Canadian foundations, Canadian government grants, and Canadian corporate donors. Contains information about the foundation's history, directors, and a link to the 990 form.


Biographies Plus Illustrated

72,000+ biographies and obituaries and 20,000+ photographs. Many of the biographies are enhanced with full text, abstracts, and citations from H. W. Wilson databases. It includes the full text of the articles from Current Biography and the World Author Series.


Biography and Genealogy Master Index

Citations for over 12 million entries for current and historical persons. Refer to the source cited for the biographical entry. [Note: Search various forms of a name to retrieve all possible records.]


Biological Abstracts

Biological Abstracts focuses on the life sciences. BIOSIS monitors more than 5,000 international journals to ensure that virtually every life science topic is covered, including aquaculture, biochemistry, biotechnology, botany, ecology, the environment, microbiology, neurophysiology, pathology, veterinary medicine, pharmacology, public health and toxicology.

BioOne

BioOne is full-text bioscience research journal database created by a collaboration between scientific societies, libraries, academe and the private sector. Most of BioOne's titles are published by small societies and non-commercial publishers and contain information on the biological, ecological and environmental sciences.

Business & Company ASAP

Contains full text articles on companies, markets and industries including market trends, mergers and acquisitions to current management theory and company overviews. Included are business and trade journals, newspapers and company directory profiles with full text and images. Coverage is from 1980 to the present.


Business & Company Resource Center

Includes company profiles, brand information, company histories, financial reports, periodical articles, and links to relevant Web sites.


CIS

CIS (Congressional Information Service) provides access to Government Periodicals Universe, History Universe, State Capital Universe and Statistical Universe.


Civil War: A Newspaper Perspective

This database contains the full text of major articles from the New York Herald, Charleston Mercury and the Richmond Enquirer, published between November 1, 1860 and April 15, 1865. It includes descriptive news articles, eye-witness accounts and official reports of battles and events, editorials, advertisements and biographies.


Congressional Universe

Includes the full text of Congressional working papers, statutes-at-large and legislation. This database includes member biographical and committee assignments information, voting records, financial data, testimony, regulations and the full text key regulatory and statutory resources. Indexing of legislative histories and published hearings goes from 1970 to present. Congressional indexes, 1789-1969, and indexes to unpublished hearings through 1980 are also included.


CorpTech Online Directory

A comprehensive source of information available today on 50,000 U.S. high technology manufacturing companies. It contains detailed profiles on public and private manufacturers and developers of technology products including smaller, privately held companies. Seventeen high tech industries are covered, from factory automation to biotech, computers to pharmaceuticals, and defense to environmental.


CSA

Cambridge Scientific Abstracts (CSA) publishes abstracts and indexes to scientific and technical research literature. The Library subscribes to the GeoRef, Biological Sciences, Environmental Sciences and Pollution Management, and PAIS. CSA maintains a search help site.


EBSCO Electronic Journals Service (EJS)

EJS provides access to journals the State Library receives from EBSCO in print. Topics covered include psychology, education, medicine, economics, geology, criminal justice, information science, physics, history, and more. If you are asked to submit payment, please contact the library and let us know which journal(s) you were trying to reach. EJS also indexes (and in some cases abstracts) titles from thousands of journals which the State Library does not subscribe to and for which there is no full text. Contact your library to find out how to get a copy of these articles.

EconLit

EconLit indexes economics and finance literature from around the world contained in journal articles, books, book reviews, collective volume articles, working papers and dissertations. Full text is included for many journals including: American Economic Review, Journal of Economic Literature, and Journal of Economic Perspectives.


Education Full Text

6/83-Present, Abstracts since 1/94 Fulltext since 1/96. Indexes and abstracts articles of at least one column in length from English-language periodicals and yearbooks published in the United States and elsewhere. English-language books relating to education published in 1995 or later are also indexed.

Godey's Ladys Book

In addition to extensive fashion descriptions and plates, the early issues included biographical sketches, articles about mineralogy, handcrafts, female costume, the dance, equestrienne procedures, health & hygiene, recipes & remedies, etc. Full text of sheet music is included, as well as works by authors such as Harriet Beecher Stowe.


Government Periodicals Universe

Indexes over 170 government periodicals covering research in fields such as astronomy, anthropology, business, education, health and medicine, social science and science topics.


Health & Wellness Resource Center

Health Reference Center-Academic

Health Source: Consumer Edition

1984+ for indexing/abstracts, 1990+ full text. Includes full text for over 270 journals, 1,100 pamphlets and 20 books. Covers health, nutrition, medical self-care, drugs and alcohol, and many other topics.


Health Source: Nursing/Academic Edition

Provides nearly 540 scholarly full-text journals, pamphlets and some books focusing on medical disciplinessuch as health, nutrition, and medical self-care form the professional point of view.


HeritageQuest Online

Contains the Periodical Source Index (PERSI),and full text of: the Pension and Bounty-Land-Warrant Legislation and Administration Relating to Participation in the Revolutionary War; Registers of signatures of despositors in branches of the Freedman's Savings and Trust Company 1865 - 1874; ProQuest's Genealogy and Local History Collection of 25,000+ family and local history books; and the 1790, 1800, 1810, 1820, 1860 -1880 and 1900-1920 censuses for the entire U.S. (Note: Check for variant spellings of names in the census, as abbreviations were often used for first names.) It also includes Private Relief Actions, Memorials, and Petitions from the Serial Set and content from the American State Papers, the predecessor to the Serial Set. The documents in the collection are from the years 1789-1969.


Historical Newspapers

Proquest Historical Newspapers is a digital archive for leading newspapers in North America. The New York Times, the newspaper of record for the United States, is currently available, from its first issue in December 1851 through December 2001. Users can search and view article images and full page images, page through issues, and search by a variety of methods.


Index to Current Urban Documents

Full-text reports and research generated by local government agencies, civic organizations, academic and research organizations, public libraries, and metropolitan and regional planning agencies. Academic journals, magazines, books and news items cover all aspects of the nursing profession, from direct patient care to health care administration. Includes some content that is indexed in CINAHL.


JSTOR - Arts and Sciences Collection

The Arts and Sciences collections I, II, III and IV contain more than 240 titles in over forty disciplines. Topics include anthropology, archaeology, architecture, art, business education, geography, history, language & literature, law, mathematics, music, performing Arts, philosophy, political science, psychology, public policy, religion, sociology and more. JSTOR - Sciences (Biology, Ecology and Health and General Science)

Contains full text from extensive back files of scholarly journals related to biological sciences, including ecology and botany, and health and general sciences, including nursing and epidemiology. Starting dates vary, but some go back to the 19th century. Most issues appear 3-5 years after publication. Kids Search

Kids Search is an interface to the Primary Search database. Designed specifically for students in kindergarten through the fifth grade, it contains full text for more than 50 popular, elementary school magazines. Full text is also available for over 100 student pamphlets, the Funk and Wagnall's encyclopedia, EBSCO Animals and a dictionary. Full text articles are assigned a reading level indicator (Lexiles).


LegalTrac

1980+ Some full text. Index to major legal publications, including law reviews, legal newspapers, and bar association journals. Covers case studies, government regulations, statutes, taxation, and international law.


Library, Information Science & Technology Abstracts (LISTA)

Library, Information Science and Technology Abstracts (LISTA) indexes more than 600 periodicals, plus books, research reports and proceedings. Subject coverage includes librarianship, classification, cataloging, bibliometrics, online information retrieval, information management and more. Coverage in the database extends back as far as the mid-1960s.


Loislaw

Loislaw contains federal law, federal regulations, state law, state regulations, court rules and court cases for all 50 states and the District of Columbia. Also available are selected treatises, forms, manuals and journals from Aspen publishers on topics such as elder law, general litigation and securities. A citation research service is a part of the database as well.


MasterFILE Premier

1984 for indexing/abstracts, 1990+ full text. Coverage varies by title. Includes over 1,800 full text journals. Covers nearly all subjects, including business, health, consumer information, education and science.


MasterFILE Select

Contains full text from more than 780 general reference, business, consumer health, general science, humanities, and multi-cultural periodicals. In addition to the full text, this database offers indexing and abstracts for more than 2,270 periodicals.


MEDLINE

MEDLINE 1966+. The U.S. National Library of Medicine's database of citations and abstracts to journal articles. Covers medicine, nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine, the health care system and much more.


MLA Bibliography

1963+ Citations from over 6,000 journals covering literature, languages, linguistics and folklore.


National Climatic Data Center. (NOAA)

Provides online access to publications of the National Climatic Data Center, which is part of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Includes satellite resources, climate resources and radar resources.


National Newspaper Index

Provides indexing of America's top five newspapers: The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Christian Science Monitor, Los Angeles Times and The Washington Post. Dates covered are 1977 to present.


Natural Medicines Comprehensive Database

A bibliographic and partial full text database that provides clinical data on natural medicines, herbal medicines and dietary supplements. Over 2000 monographs give updated and unbiased information about herbal medicines. Each product monograph provides a patient handout and all information is referenced. Drug interactions, safety concerns, effectiveness ratings, and ingredient listings are easily searchable. There is also a separate web site for patients.


New York State Newspapers

A subset of InfoTrac Custom Newspapers, this database includes the following seven full-text newspapers from around New York State: Buffalo News, New York Times (from 2000 on), New York Post, New York Observer, Syracuse Herald American, Syracuse Herald-Journal, and Post-Standard (Syracuse).


New York Times - Historical

Oxford English Dictionary (OED) Online

The accepted authority on the evolution of the English language, the OED details the meaning, history, and pronunciation of over half a million words, both present and past, from across the English-speaking world. Citations include quotations, etymological analysis and variant spellings. The OED Online contains the complete text of the 20-volume Second Edition as well as the New Edition in progress.


Oxford Reference Online CORE

Oxford Reference Online contains approximately 100 reference books and dictionaries in a wide variety of fields including art, language, general reference, law, performing arts, history, politics, science, and medicine.


PAIS International (Public Affairs Information Service)

Indexes articles, books, conference proceedings, government documents, book chapters, and statistical directories related to public affairs.


Pennsylvania Gazette (1728-1800)

The Pennsylvania Gazette (1728-1800) - Considered The New York Times of the 18th century, the Gazette provides the reader with a first hand view of colonial America, the American Revolution and the New Republic, and offers important social, political and cultural perspectives of each of the periods. It includes editorials, letters, and the full text of important documents such as the U.S. Constitution.


Pennsylvania Genealogical Catalogue: Chester County 1809-1870

This database is primarily a listing of marriages, deaths and obituaries from the Village Record, published in West Chester, PA.


Pennsylvania Newspaper Record: Delaware County 1819-1870

Consisting of of five Delaware County newspapers, this database contains the full text transcriptions of articles, advertisements, and vital statistics, providing insight into technology, business activity and culture in a down-river milling and manufacturing area.


Primary Search

Designed specifically for elementary school libraries, it contains full text for more than 50 popular, elementary school magazines. Full text is also available for over 100 student pamphlets, an encyclopedia and a dictionary. Full text articles are assigned a reading level indicator (Lexiles). Project Muse

Project Muse was estabished by John Hopkins University Press to provide digital access to journals. It provides online, worldwide access to the full text of over 100 scholarly journals in the arts, humanities, mathematics and social sciences.


PsycArticles

PsycArticles contains full-text, peer-reviewed scholarly and scientific articles in psychology from American Psychological Association and affiliated journals. It includes all journal articles, book reviews, letters to the editor, and errata from each journal.


PsycBooks

PsycBooks has over 21,000 chapters from over 1,400 books published by APA and other distinguished publishers. It includes over 700 classic books of landmark historical impact in psychology and over 1,500 authored entries from the APA/Oxford University Press Encyclopedia of Psychology.


PsycINFO

Many journals indexed in PsycInfo are available in full text in Academic Search Premier.

Contains comprehensive indexing and abstracting of the most popular general-interest periodicals published in the United States and Canada, plus the full text of selected periodicals. Full-text coverage begins in January 1994 for most titles.


Readers Guide Retrospective

This database contains comprehensive indexing of the most popular general-interest periodicals published in the United States and reflects the history of 20th century America. Phase One coverage includes the years 1969 through 1982. (The complete database will cover the years 1890 through 1982.)


Reference USA

Directory information, SIC codes, credit ratings, and number of employees for U.S. businesses and organizations, as well as telephone directory information for individuals.


Sanborn Maps

Digital Sanborn Maps, 1867-1970 provides access to large-scale maps (50 feet to an inch) of towns and cities in the United States. The State Library subscribes to the New York subset of these maps.

Contains hundreds of science encyclopedias, reference books, periodicals, and other sources. Includes topics in biology, chemistry, earth & space science, environmental science, health & medicine, history of science, life science, physics, science & society, science as inquiry, scientists, technology and wildlife.

A database for scientific research that contains more than 1,800 Elsevier Science journals in the life, physical, medical, technical, and social sciences for the past four years. Scipio: Art & Rare Book Sales Catalogs

SCIPIO is a union catalog of auction catalog records covering art and rare book auction sales catalogs from the late 16th century to upcoming auctions. Records contain information on dates and places of sale, catalog title, the auction house, sellers, institutional holdings, and titles of works. Both North American and European auction houses and some private sales are included. SCIPIO provides bibliographic access to sources of art objects and rare books, the history of collecting, and contemporary and historical market trends. Searchasaurus

Searchasaurus is a colorful interface to Primary Search. Designed specifically for elementary school libraries, it contains full text for more than 50 popular, elementary school magazines. Full text is also available for over 100 student pamphlets, an encyclopedia and a dictionary. Full text articles are assigned a reading level indicator (Lexiles).

State Capital Universe

Contains bills, regulations, and statutes; information about state legislators, issues and policy in State Net Capitol Journal and other news sources, including state newspapers of record; and links to Web sites with state information. Not all states are covered under each topic.


Statistical Universe

Indexes and provides full text links to documents contained in American Statistics Index (ASI), Statistical Reference Index (SRI), Index to International Statistics (IIS). Sources covered include government agencies, associations, and international associations.
