Instructions for Finding Information
in the "Visit the State Library's Web Site" Section of the Winter 2004 Issue:

  1. Keep current with culture. Learn how to subscribe to Empire State Development's new Culture e-News.

    Go to Electronic Resources and click on Internet Bibliographies. From this list, select New York State. Clicking on the Travel link at the top of page will escort you down to the I Love NY link at the bottom of the page. The I Love NY web site features Culture e-News that you may subscribe to.

  2. Get ideas for names. The Social Security Administration's Popular Baby Names Page has thousands of possibilities.

    Go to Electronic Resources and click on Internet Bibliographies. From this list, select Government - Federal. Next, select the link to U.S. Federal Government Agencies Page, which will provide you with a list of government agencies including the Social Security Administration. Select the complete list of government agencies, and find the SSA in the list alphabetically. On the SSA web site, under Social Security News, you will find a link to the Press Release regarding the most popular baby names for 2004. This will also offer a search item that will allow you to search for the most popular baby names by year.

  3. Save energy. Check out the U.S. Department of Energy tips on making your home more energy efficient.

    Go to Electronic Resources and click on Internet Bibliographies. From this list, select Government - Federal. Next, select the link to U.S. Federal Government Agencies Page, and find the Department of Energy in the alphabetical list. From the DOE web site, follow the Energy Efficiency tab, and then select Energy Saving Tips. You may select from general information, home, or car tips.

  4. Drive safely. Visit "Traffic Safety Topics" on the Governor's Traffic Safety Committee Web site.

    Go to Electronic Resources and click on Internet Bibliographies. From this list, select New York State Government and find the New York State home page. From the NYS home page, select the Government Agencies tab and click State Government. Using the alphabetical list of government agencies, find the Governor's Traffic Safety Committee and follow this link.
