New York State Winter Wonderland

January/February 2013
The New York State Library's 7th floor exhibit for winter features seasonal-themed materials, from I Love NY winter tourism annuals to large-format posters, including a run of bobsledding beauties from the 1932 Lake Placid Winter Olympics and beyond.
Most of the posters come from the Library's collection of New York State documents, as do the winter tourism and skiing guides in the smaller display cases (not shown here).
The exhibit is on display in the 7th floor lobby through February 23, 2013.
Display Cases

The first display case has three posters promoting the Olympic bobsled run at Lake Placid. Two of these posters were created as part of the Federal Art Project NYC, a project of the Works Progress Administration (WPA) during the Great Depression. There is also a small poster from the 1980 Winter Olympics, which were held at Lake Placid, NY.
The second case features a brochure and a large poster from the 1932 Winter Olympics, also held at Lake Placid, NY.
The third display case focuses on skiing, with a "Ski New York" travel poster and a more recent I-Love-NY-era example showing a mountain criss-crossed by ski trails.
